Welcome everyone! We are looking forward to getting to know you through the semester! For the first class, we will do a round of introductions and your personal goals for this class. Then we will introduce this seminar, including its objectives, our expectations and class logistics. Click About for a summary. Then (drum roll...)... thanks to his accepting our invitation, Jon Whittle, Professor and Chair of Software Engineering in the Department of Computing at Lancaster University, will discuss with us his work at Catalyst. Please read more about Catalyst and come prepared for a vigorous discussion about its projects, methodologies and technologies. From the website: "Catalyst is a £1.9M project, funded by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPRSC), which brings together academics and communities to jointly imagine and build the next generation of tools for social change, and to explore innovative, bottom-up technology-mediated solutions to major problems in society. The three year project will look at how different communities use technology to make ‘the world’ a better place. And, in a series of sub-projects, communities and academics will together envision and build next generation tools more suited to the job." |
